Chapter 16

Matias

I’m lying in bed with my mate in my arms. She’s warm and flushed against my chest. Her breathing is slowing down as I soothe her with little circles on her back. I expect her to fall asleep in the next minute or so, given how exhausted she is.

We went for a third and fourth round and haven’t left the bed in about five hours. I just couldn’t get enough of her. Still can’t. If I’d listen to myself, I’d climb back inside her but I know she’s far from fit to withstand another round right now.

I let her fall asleep with her head on my chest and start to doze off too when there’s a soft knock at my door. She doesn’t even stir, and I don’t want to disturb her. I’m about to growl to whoever dared to interrupt us but I highly suspect it’s either our suppers or Liam, who’d only knock if he has something really important to tell me.

I grunt lightly to tell them to come in. Another perk of being a shifter—no one else would’ve heard the sound.

The door quietly opens and Sandra walks in holding a tray. I bet Liam didn’t want to risk walking in and being in the presence of too much flesh showing from Amelia. It’s more for her benefit than ours. She’ll have to get over the nudity soon.

Sandra smiles softly at me before heading to the coffee table. She puts down the tray and walks to the head of the bed to talk to me. I’ve always liked Sandra, from the shy and a bit too sensitive girl she was growing up to the golden-hearted teenager, to being the best sister someone can ask for. Corinna is my tough-love sister, Sandra is my sweet, loving sister.

“Liam wanted you to know that they may have a lead on Gregory. He’ll debrief you tomorrow,” she whispers.

This is good news. Very good news. Finally, he resurfaces.

I give her a nod to thank her. She straightens up but hesitates while looking at Amelia. She notices the red angry mark on her neck. A big wide grin splits up her face, which in turn makes me grin as well.

“Congratulations,” she murmurs before silently leaving.

I let my mate sleep for about ten more minutes before I start waking her up gently. I don’t want the food to get too cold.

I trace her jaw and lips with my fingertips. I stroke that perfect pouty mouth. She stirs a little but not enough so I up the ante. I lick those delicious lips. That gets me a groan and a moan.

“Please… Please, I can’t possibly survive another round right now,” she whines.

I chuckle. “I’m actually waking you because our supper is here, and I need you to eat because we have something to do tonight.”

That gets her to open her eyes. She frowns at me. “Does this something involves being naked?”

“Well yeah, but not for the reasons you might think. Come on, let’s eat and I’ll explain everything.
